Soul Shakin’ Dance Party! Funk – Soul – Disco/HouseThe back story: Saskatchewan… 2003… After the dust settled from a mighty rock ‘n roll explosion (Hanna, Alberta was apparently the epicenter), four musicians were left standing, shaking their heads, wondering what happened. Rather than join the legions of “backers”, cold and hungry, they quickly huddled together for heat, and vowed to play something completely different! They figured soul, funk and (gasp) disco qualified as completely different! They wanted the funk… gotta have that funk! They found seasoned horn players to join their cause, fresh from gigging with The Funk Brothers of Motown fame. The group valiantly set out to change the musical landscape of Western Canada. Absofunkinlutely! Since groove was essential, they chose to cover songs by The Temptations, James Brown, Fatboy Slim, Stevie Wonder, Rick James, and The Bee Gees. Just what the doctor ordered to get the pulse going and body moving. With a full album released, and a one in the works, television and radio appearances, this six piece band is as fun to party and dance to as much as they are to sit back, listen, and enjoy. Bass heavy grooves, slick organ and clav, chic-a-wah guitar, killer vocals, and a wailing horn section makes a night of great music.

After two successful CDs, bluessmyth is on the cusp of releasing their third album entitled Sola Gratia. This powerful recording from the Canadian trio includes Hurricane Katrina, reaching out in despair, soul searching, and finding redemption as riveting and introspective topics. The name of the group (and their second CD), bluessmyth combines the words blues and smyth (or smith) as the symbolic forging of the roots of blues music with heavy, metallic overtones, and gospel & soul influences
This is an act definitely pushing forward in the true indie spirit for ten years now with no signs of slowing down. Enjoy the music that has been posted and be sure to visit the website to find out more about adams rib.
